Dr. Tarak Patel
Dr. Tarak Patel is a board certified pediatric pulmonologist who is dedicated to the care of children and young adults with pulmonary and sleep disorders. He is the only pulmonologist in Central Texas board certified in pediatric and adult sleep disorders.
After graduating from UT-Austin, Dr. Tarak Patel received his M.D. from Texas Tech University and went on to complete his pediatric residency at the University of Texas-Houston. Subsequently, he finished his pediatric pulmonary fellowship in 2004 with Baylor College of Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital. During this time, he also underwent training and board certification in adult and pediatric sleep disorders. After his fellowship, he stayed on as faculty as an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine. Here he worked closely with fellows, residents and other subspecialties at Texas Children’s Hospital. He subsequently received his board certification in pediatric pulmonology. He has a special interest in international medicine and has worked in Central America, South America and India.
His pediatric pulmonary interests include: asthma, chronic cough, noisy breathing, chronic lung disease, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), interstitial lung disease, vocal cord dysfunction, respiratory complications of neuromuscular and chest wall diseases.
His adult and pediatric sleep interests include: obstructive sleep apnea, snoring, insomnia, interrupted sleep, snoring, narcolepsy, restless leg and daytime sleepiness.
